1 How long will it take to have my internal stairs installed?
The average set of internal stairs takes between 10 and 15 working days to install from confirmation of order. This process includes site measures, shop drawings, manufacture, delivery and installation. More detailed work, such as geometric (spiral) staircase designs can take as much as 6 to 8 weeks to complete due to the additional labour and attention to detail required.
2 Do you supply internal stairs and baluster designs outside Victoria?
Certainly! Melbourne Stairs can supply quality stair and components (such as timber balusters) to anywhere in Australia. We currently have regular customers in New South Wales and Tasmania.
3 How much do staircase designs cost?
The average staircase is approximately $4000; however, staircase designs vary in price from $1000, for a basic straight flight, to $30,000, for a customised original. You can click here to view our range of premium, midrange and budget stairs.
4 Does Melbourne Stairs deal direct to the public?
While we enjoy working with many award winning builders, architects and various retailers throughout Australia, we welcome owner builders to deal direct and to join our list of satisfied clients.
5 I don’t have any plans, can Melbourne Stairs help?
Absolutely. We can arrange to meet with you on-site or, alternatively, pop into our showroom and we can design a staircase to meet your expectations. From budget stairs to our Ready Stair™ range, we’ve got all your stair solutions.
6 What information do I need in order to ask for a quote?
Generally, all we need is a copy of the ground floor and first floor plans together with a material specification. Not sure what material to use? That’s okay, we have a great range of timber baluster and baluster designs for you to choose from. Feel free to give our office a call to discuss the many options available.
7 I have existing internal stairs that I want to replace, can Melbourne Stairs help?
We can! Melbourne Stairs can arrange to remove the existing staircase and replace it with a new one that will both enhance the look and feel of your home.
8 What is the best timber to use?
There are many different types of timbers to choose from. Our range is extensive and in most cases we are able to source the same species that you have selected for your timber floors.
The most cost effective hardwood to use is either Victorian Ash or Tasmanian Oak, depending on local supply. Warm, dense and resilient, Victorian Ash and Tasmanian Oak are the preferred hardwoods for a wide range of applications and produce an excellent finish. They are recognised for their excellent staining qualities, which allow ready matching with other timbers, finishes or furnishings.
If you prefer your staircase to be painted or to have a carpet finish, then we recommend you use Pine and MDF materials. This combination ensures the most cost effective outcome while maintaining function and form. We also supply timber balusters in our selection of various baluster designs.
9 Can I do the installation myself?
Most of our stairs can be installed by a skilled handyman or by a qualified carpenter. However we do recommend that we install your staircase designs so you can have peace of mind. This ensures quality and avoids disappointment.
